Ferrari’s First EV Is Here - And Not Everyone Loves It

Ferrari has officially stepped into the electric era with the unveiling of the all-new Ferrari Luce, the brand’s first fully electric car. Designed alongside legendary former Apple designer Jony Ive and his design company LoveFrom, the Luce is already one of the most talked-about cars of 2026 - although not entirely for the reasons Ferrari may have hoped.

Ferrari Luce - Electric Vehicle?

At first glance, the Luce feels like a major departure from traditional Ferrari design. It is a four-door, five-seat EV with a much more minimalist and futuristic appearance than the aggressive supercars the brand is known for. Some enthusiasts have praised Ferrari for taking a bold step forward, while others feel the car looks too soft, too digital, and too far removed from Ferrari’s heritage.

Underneath the controversy, though, the numbers are seriously impressive. Ferrari claims over 1,000 horsepower from a quad-motor setup, a 0-62mph time of around 2.5 seconds, and a range of more than 320 miles. The Luce also features four-wheel steering, adaptive suspension technology, and ultra-fast charging capability, showing Ferrari is not entering the EV market halfway.

What makes this launch particularly interesting is what it says about the future of performance cars. Ferrari has spent decades building its reputation around naturally aspirated V8 and V12 engines, noise, emotion, and theatre. The Luce represents a completely different philosophy — one focused on technology, refinement, and electrification while still attempting to preserve the Ferrari experience through simulated sound and tactile interior controls.

The reaction has been mixed enough that Ferrari’s share price reportedly dipped following the reveal, with some investors and enthusiasts questioning whether the design moves too far away from what makes Ferrari special.

Still, whether people love it or hate it, the Ferrari Luce is an important moment for the automotive industry. Every major performance manufacturer is now facing the same challenge: how do you embrace electrification without losing the emotion that made people fall in love with cars in the first place?

Ferrari’s answer is the Luce. And judging by the internet’s reaction so far, this is only the beginning of the conversation.
