All New Audi Q7 Announced - Powered By Vegetable Oil?

Audi has officially pulled back the sheets on the highly anticipated third generation Q7, and it stands for a massive jump ahead for the brand’s flagship luxury SUV. As a staple in the premium family market, the all-new Q7 balances incredible presence with high-end tech upgrades and a fascinating mechanical twist.

Here is everything you need to know about the latest premium cruiser, designed to keep it at the top of the luxury SUV shortlist.

A Sharper, More Muscular Presence

Audi has gone all-in on giving the new Q7 a commanding, confident look on the road. The front profile is dominated by an evolved, highly structured Singleframe grille and aggressively styled split LED headlights. Flared wheel arches hint at the legendary quattro all-wheel-drive system underneath, while the silhouette maintains the iconic, upright boxy proportions that guarantee maximum cabin space. Depending on your choice of specification, the wheels range from an impressive 20 inches as standard up to a massive 23 inches for a truly aggressive stance.

Triple Screens and Business Class Seating

Inside, the cabin receives a complete digital overhaul. The dashboard now features a massive panoramic OLED display system that seamlessly integrates multiple screens across the driver and passenger zones, creating a thoroughly modern, data-rich environment. Audi has also upgraded the audio experience, integrating premium speakers directly into the headrests for immersive sound.

For the first time, buyers can choose between three distinct cabin configurations. Alongside the traditional five-seat and practical seven-seat layouts, Audi is introducing a luxurious six-seat option. This setup introduces captain’s chairs to the second row, offering a genuine "business class" executive travel experience for passengers.

V6 Diesel Power with a Sustainable Twist

While much of the premium segment is moving entirely to petrol-hybrids or pure electric setups, Audi is doubling down on refined long-distance cruising. The new Q7 launches as a diesel-only affair, powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine available in two power outputs: 242bhp and 295bhp.

The powertrain is supported by a sophisticated mild-hybrid system featuring a 24bhp electric motor, a belt alternator starter, and an electric-powered compressor that eliminates turbo lag and gives a smooth mid-range boost.

The headline-grabbing feature is the mechanical capability to run entirely on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). This allows drivers to dramatically cut their carbon footprint without sacrificing the immense towing power and effortless 500-plus mile range that only a premium V6 diesel can offer.

Sharper Dynamics and Smart Tech

Power is delivered via an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox and a newly developed limited-slip centre differential. This updated quattro system provides even sharper traction and stability during sudden load changes, ensuring the large SUV feels remarkably agile. Drivers can stick with the standard steel springs or upgrade to adaptive air suspension setups for standard or sportier driving dynamics.

The third-generation model also introduces clever safety advancements. A new emergency assist function can automatically guide the car to an empty hard shoulder and bring it to a safe halt if it detects the driver has become inactive. For urban environments, the Q7 can project turn signals directly onto the tarmac at night, giving pedestrians and cyclists an unmistakable warning of where the vehicle is heading.

With its bold styling, ultra-premium interior layouts, and highly efficient V6 powertrains, the new Audi Q7 sets a very high benchmark for the premium family SUV market.
