The Fully Electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Is Coming

For years, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has been THE ultimate choice for drivers who refuse to compromise, putting together the ferocious track-bred performance of a bespoke (custom-made!) AMG supercar with the practical styling of a luxury four-door family cruiser. Traditionally powered by a proper rumbling, hand-built V8, the upcoming generation is preparing to make a monumental leap into the future - just as the world has expected it to go.

While we haven’t got flying cars as of yet, this car is one step in the right direction.

Mercedes-AMG has officially confirmed that the next-generation GT 4-Door Coupe will be fully electric, which has caused a bit of a stir for some.

Built from the Ground Up

Unlike Mercedes original electric offerings, this brand-new model will not share its architecture with standard luxury saloons. Instead, it is going to be the very first vehicle to sit on the dedicated AMG.EA (AMG Electric Architecture) platform.

Designed specifically to handle even higher levels of power, this setup moves further away from conventional electric motors. Instead, it will utilise ultra-advanced axial-flux electric motors developed by YASA, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. These specialised motors are noticeably smaller and lighter than standard units but deliver double the torque and power density.

While official figures are still tightly under wraps, industry insiders have hinted that this all-electric powertrain could push out an astonishing 1,000 bhp and over 1,000 lb-ft of torque, driven through an advanced, fully variable four-wheel-drive system. It is safe to say that the extreme speeds we expect from an AMG will be thoroughly preserved.

Sleek Supercar Styling Meets Practical Elegance

Recent looks at the prototype undergoing testing reveal that the upcoming model will retain its iconic, low-slung, aggressive stance. It features an incredibly sleek, aerodynamic silhouette with an elongated wheelbase, muscular rear arches, and a striking active rear spoiler that deploys at speed to maximise stability on the dual carriageway.

True to the brand's identity, a reimagined, illuminated AMG Panamericana grille will dominate the front end, ensuring it recieves respect the moment it pulls into any showroom or driveway.

A Fake V8 Roar?

One of the greatest challenges in transitioning a meaty petrol supercar to electric power is losing the emotional soundtrack. To fix this issue before it happens, AMG engineers have spent tireless hours developing a bespoke acoustic experience.

The vehicle will feature an artificial, highly engineered soundtrack which has been designed to mimic the legendary 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and its roars. But it's much further from a simple speaker that buzzes around in the background, the system uses internal and external sound synthesizers which respond precisely to speed, throttle position, and drive modes to deliver an authentic, heart-pumping feedback loop to the driver.

When Can We Expect It In The UK?

This groundbreaking all-electric AMG super saloon is expected to make its official global debut later on in the year, with the first production models hitting UK roads shortly after. It looks like it might be on the way to redefining the high-performance EV market, laying down a direct challenge to the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Audi e-tron GT.
